SUNDAY 16TH AUGUST
We will pick you up from your designated pick up point and travel to Dublin Port for the 08.05hrs Irish Ferries service to Holyhead. After disembarking, we will travel across North Wales and the Pennines, with comfort stops en route, to board the overnight cruise ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. After checking in to your comfortable cabin, dinner will be served on board in the ship’s carvery restaurant, then relax and enjoy the ship’s entertainment programme this evening.
MONDAY 17TH AUGUST
After breakfast on board we will disembark into Rotterdam’s Europoort at approximately 08.15hrs, then travel across the Netherlands and into Germany, travelling through the Rhineland to our overnight stop in Wiesbaden. Dinner will be served in the hotel this evening.
TUESDAY 18TH AUGUST
After breakfast we will check out of the hotel and travel eastwards to the Czech border and on to the beautiful city of Prague for a five night stay. Dinner in the hotel.
WEDNESDAY 19TH AUGUST
After breakfast we will meet a local guide for a half day tour to see the city’s highlights. Straddling the River Vltava, the ‘Golden City’ of Prague is full of architectural gems and contrasts. We will see the area of Prague Castle and the immense St Vitus Cathedral, set on a hilltop in the medieval quarter, the Royal Palace, St George’s Basilica, Charles Bridge, the State Opera House, the National Theatre, Staremesto Square in the Old Town with the Tyn Cathedral, St Nicholas Church and the Town Hall with its Astrological Clock. Then we will continue to Wenceslas Square in the heart of modern Prague with its many shops, restaurants and Art Nouveau buildings. The afternoon is at leisure for further exploration – perhaps take a cruise on the river or sample a Czech beer in one of the picturesque squares. Dinner in the hotel.
THURSDAY 20TH AUGUST
Today we will travel to the royal town of Melnik, a beautiful town situated north of Prague on a prominent hill above the confluence of the Vltava and Labe rivers. Melnik dates back to the 9th century when it was a Slavonic settlement, and it used to be the second home of the Bohemian Queens from the 13th century. It is also the centre of Bohemia’s wine growing region and we will visit a vineyard to taste some of the local wines. Dinner in the hotel.
FRIDAY 21ST AUGUST
After breakfast we will set off on an excursion to discover two of the Czech Republic’s most famous products – beer and glass! First we will travel to Pilsen in Western Bohemia where beer has been brewed since 1295. We will visit the Prazdroj Brewery to see how the beer was, and is now, brewed. A tasting is included. Then it’s on to Nizbor, the most famous glass factory in Bohemia where we will learn the history of Bohemian glass production and see how it is made on a tour of the factory. Dinner in the hotel.
SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST
Today’s full day excursion will take in two unique gems of castles. Firstly, Konopiste Castle which was built in the 14th century as a hunting castle and rebuilt in the 19th century. It houses a fascinating collection of historical weapons, furniture, paintings and tapestries. Next, to the huge gothic castle of Karlstejn. Built high on a rocky hillside the castle houses many important Czech national treasures and was a depository for the crown jewels and other relics. We will return to the hotel for dinner.
SUNDAY 23RD AUGUST
We will check out of the hotel after breakfast and retrace our route across Germany to an overnight stop in Wiesbaden with dinner included.
MONDAY 24TH AUGUST
Our return journey will take us back through Germany and the Netherlands to board the overnight cruise ferry from Rotterdam to Hull with cabins, dinner and breakfast on board.
TUESDAY 25TH AUGUST
After disembarkation in Hull we will return across the Pennines to catch the early afternoon ferry from Holyhead to Dublin, then an immediate transfer to your original pick up point will follow.
