SUNDAY 21ST JUNE
Relax on board the ship this morning before we arrive at Bergen at 13.00hrs. Bergen, known as “the Gateway to the Fjords” is an international city packed with history and tradition, a big city with small-town charm and atmosphere. Bergen has given a warm welcome to its visitors for more than 900 years and the old Hanseatic Wharf of Bryggen has become a symbol of Norway’s cultural heritage and has gained a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The wharf is architecturally unique and is perhaps one of the most familiar images in all of Norway. We will spend some free time exploring the delightful wharf area before continuing our journey to Voss where we will stay for three nights. Dinner will be served in the hotel and there will be evening entertainment.
MONDAY 22ND JUNE
Today we will take a full day round trip tour of the Sognefjord, the world’s longest fjord. We will take in the spectacular scenery of the Vik Mountains with an optional visit to Hopperstad Stave Church dating back to 1230. We will visit Vangsnes and see the statue of Fridtjov the Viking, and from here we will take the ferry across the Sognefjord to Hella and drive along the shores of the fjord passing many fruit farms, through Leikanger and onto Kaupanger. We will cross the fjord again from Manheller to Fodnes to visit Laerdal with an optional visit to the Wild Salmon Centre, before experiencing a drive through the world’s longest road tunnel back to the hotel. Dinner and entertainment in the hotel this evening.
TUESDAY 23RD JUNE
Enjoy an unforgettable experience today on the classic ‘Norway in a Nutshell’ excursion. From the hotel we will drive the short distance to Gudvangen where we will board a ship for an unforgettable four hour cruise on the Sognefjord, with its steep mountain cliffs, glaciers and snow-capped peaks. Look out for seals and other wildlife as the ship enters the amazingly narrow Naeroyfjord, then sail past traditional fjord-side farms and small hamlets on the Aurlandsfjord before reaching Flam, nestling between precipitous mountain slopes and cascading waterfalls. Here we will board the famous Flam Railway, an unbelievable 20km train journey from sea level at the fjord up to the mountain village of Myrdal. After admiring the views from the top we will take the train back to Voss. Dinner and entertainment in the hotel this evening.
WEDNESDAY 24TH JUNE
